### How to calculate square of any number – Learn Vedic Maths Trick for Fast & Easy Calculations

Addition is the most basic operation in mathematics. It is one of the most easy to perform operations in maths.
But how do you usually add time? Convert into minutes or hours. A bit complicated, isn’t it?
Well, actually it’s NOT all that complicated. Here’s a very simple trick to add hours & minutes together in a matter of seconds.

Using this easy vedic maths tricks, you will know how to calculate faster than a calculator. Learn this vedic maths tricks for fast addition of time
& more of our vedic maths tricks for addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. These easy math tricks & number magic give you maths calculation shortcuts, that will save you precious calculation time if you are preparing for competitive exams like IITJEE etc.

#### Rule: Consider Time as a number, Add together & increment by 40

Example: Let’s add 1 hour 45 minutes & 4 hours 25 minutes.

Now, make both time values as numbers & add together:
145 + 425 = 570

Now, increment 40:
570 + 40 = 610

So, the final answer is -6 hours and 10 minutes.

No matter what the hours & minutes are, just add 40 as a time constant to the sub total.

Similar Example:
2:15 + 6:55

= 215+655 = 870
870+40 = 910

Final Answer: 9 hours & 10 minutes

### Adding a list of numbers

#### Rule: Look for number pairs that make a multiple of 10

Example: 17 + 26 + 33 + 44

Now, the list can be sequentially added as follows :
17 + 26 = 43 then 43 + 33 = 76 then 76 + 44 = 120

Or

You could look for number pairs that make multiples of 10.
17 + 33 is 50 and 26 + 44 is 70
Now, 50 + 70 = 120

Similar Examples:
74 + 54 + 86 + 97

= (74 + 86) + (54 + 96 + 1)
= 160 + 151 = 311

Or 2 + 4 + 7 + 9 + 2 + 8 + 6 + 1

= (2 + 8) + (4 + 6) + (9 + 1) + 7 + 2
= 10 + 10 + 10 + 7 + 2
= 30 + 9
= 39

Calculating squares can be very easy once you learn Vedic Maths Tricks.

Step 1. Choose a base (ones, tens, hundereds, thousands etc.) close to the number whose sq. is to be found.
Step 2. Find the difference of the number from its base.

Step 3. Add the difference with the number
Step 4. Multiply the result with the base.
Step 5. Add the product of the sq. of the difference with the result of the above point.

Let’s take an example to understand this: (102) ² =?

Step 1. Choose 100 as base
Step 2. Difference =102-100 = 2
Step 3. Number + difference = 102+ (2) = 104
Step 4. Multiplying result with base = 104*100 = 10400
Step 5. Adding result with square of difference= 10400+ (2)² = 10400 + 4 = 10404

Let’s take another example: (195) ² =?

• Step 1. Choose 200 as base
• Step 2. Difference =195-200 = -5
• Step 3. Number + difference = 195+ (-5) = 190
• Step 4. Multiplying result with base = 190*200= 38000
• Step 5. Adding result with square of difference= 38000+ (-5)² = 38000+ 25= 38025
