IGNOU Assignment Confusion – No Response After Online Submission

Since IGNOU has asked students to submit assignments online/via email, students have this common confusion about having received no response after assignment submission.

1. How do I submit my IGNOU assignment?

Due to CoViD 2019 lockdown situation, IGNOU has given the students a provision to submit their assignments online or via email. Physical copies of the written assignments are not required to be submitted right now.

2. Will I receive a confirmation of assignment received from IGNOU after assignment submission?

No, currently IGNOU is not giving any confirmations/receipts for assignments submitted online via email.

3. What is the last date for IGNOU Assignment Submission?

IGNOU has recently extended the last date for assignment submission to 15th June, 2020.

Recently, due to CoViD 2019 lockdown situation, IGNOU has given the students a provision to submit their assignments online or via email. Physical copies of the written assignments are not required to be submitted right now.

However, it seems IGNOU has not put any receipt/confirmation mechanism in place for this kind of submission.

Assignments have been an integral part of IGNOU’s assessment strategy. IGNOU has always mandated the physical submission of written assignments by the students at their study center or regional center, by hand in person or by post. A receipt or confirmation of assignment was instantly issues to the candidate.

Assignment submission was also made mandatory for the eligibility to appear in exams & declaration of results.

However, with this new (temporary & rather emergeny) system in place, students are confused during the whole process.

As per IGNOU, students are required to first complete the hand written assignment for all of their subjects. Next, the IGNOU assignment should have a cover page, that mentions all the required details.

Now, the students need to scan this assignment into one single pdf file per each subject. All these scanned assignment files now need to be submitted to IGNOU.

This is where the students are confused. In the absence of any receipt/confirmation mechanism, students are unsure whether their assignment has been accepted by IGNOU for assessment or has it been rejected due to some presentation/format issue or if they have even received it?

As for IGNOU, this is a totally new experience for them too. Moreover, due to the large volumes of incoming email assignments, it might be a task for them to assess all assignments fairly.

It is quite understandable that as this has been a contingency action, of accepting assignments via email & online, IGNOU did not have a proper system in place that could provide receipts & confirmations to students after submitting their assignments.

Hence, if you have sent a mail with your IGNOU assignment & you have not received any Mail Delivery Failure Notification email in return, you can believe that your assignment has been delivered to the IGNOU’s email.

Now it is for IGNOU to actually go ahead & plan to grade all those assignments they have received in a totally new format.

Just to be on the safer side, do keep the hard copy of your assignment safe with you. IGNOU has also mentioned this in their directions. Please do beware that IGNOU can ask for physical submissions of assignments for assessment, once things seem to improve.

Hence, do not fall for the traps of getting a scanned copy of assignment & submitting under your name.
