Accenture has laid off 11,000 employees in 2025, focusing on building an AI-driven workforce. CEO Julie Sweet says reskilling isn’t always possible. Learn why AI jobs are the future at Accenture.

Accenture Announces 11,000 Job Cuts in 2025
Global consulting giant Accenture has confirmed that it has laid off more than 11,000 employees worldwide in the past three months. The move is part of its strategy to reshape its workforce for the AI era.
During the company’s Q4 FY25 earnings call, CEO Julie Sweet emphasized that while upskilling and reskilling remain the company’s No. 1 strategy, not all roles can transition effectively into AI-driven operations.
“We are exiting, on a compressed timeline, people where reskilling is not a viable path for the skills we need,” Sweet explained.
Why Accenture is Cutting Jobs
- Total Headcount Drop: As of August 2025, Accenture’s global headcount fell to 779,000 from 791,000 three months earlier.
- Cost Savings: The restructuring aims to save over $1 billion, primarily through severance and divesting two acquisitions.
- “Rapid Talent Rotation”: CFO Angie Park noted that the company is reallocating resources to build a workforce aligned with next-generation technologies.
Building an AI-Ready Workforce
While jobs are being cut, Accenture is also investing heavily in AI and data talent:
- Doubled AI & data specialists to 77,000 since 2023
- Trained 550,000 employees in generative AI
- Positioning AI as “expansionary” rather than “deflationary”
“Advanced AI is becoming a part of everything we do,” said Julie Sweet, highlighting the company’s commitment to AI-first business solutions.
Accenture’s Strong Financial Performance
Despite the layoffs, Accenture posted strong results:
- Revenue Growth: $17.6 billion in Q4 FY25 (7% YoY increase)
- Client Demand: High demand for AI transformation services
- Future Hiring: Accenture confirmed plans to expand headcount again in FY26, but focused on AI-related roles.
What This Means for Professionals
Accenture’s restructuring reflects a global trend seen across companies like Microsoft, Meta, and Google, where traditional roles are being replaced with AI and automation-focused jobs.
For professionals, the message is clear:
👉 Adapt to AI skills or risk being left behind.
